In the heart of Lisbon’s historic Baixa district, Andaz Lisbon brings a contemporary expression of Portuguese hospitality to the streets surrounding Praça do Comércio. Opened in March 2026 as the first Andaz hotel in Portugal, this 170-room address pairs the character of the capital with an international approach to design, dining and urban living. From locally inspired interiors to a rooftop restaurant overlooking the city, the hotel invites guests to discover Lisbon from one of its most evocative neighbourhoods.

A new address in historic Baixa

Lisbon is a city best discovered on foot: along streets of pale stone, past tiled façades and between the cafés and squares that give each neighbourhood its own rhythm. Andaz Lisbon places that experience at the centre of a stay. Set in Baixa, close to Praça do Comércio and the Tagus waterfront, the hotel offers an appealing starting point for exploring the Portuguese capital.

Its opening in March 2026 introduced the Andaz brand to Portugal. Rather than presenting a retreat removed from the city, the property embraces its surroundings, with the historic streets, shops and riverside promenades of central Lisbon forming a natural extension of the hotel experience.

Portuguese character, contemporary design

Inside, the design draws on materials closely associated with Portugal. Cork accents, stone finishes, mosaic tiles and warm mahogany bring texture and depth to a contemporary setting, balancing a sense of place with the comforts expected of an international luxury hotel.

The 170 rooms and suites continue this dialogue between local identity and modern hospitality. Selected accommodations offer views towards familiar Lisbon landmarks, including Rua Augusta, Praça do Comércio, the river and São Jorge Castle. Natural materials, layered finishes and thoughtful details give the interiors a calm, residential quality without losing sight of the city outside.

For travellers, the attraction lies in this combination of comfort and proximity. The hotel’s address makes it possible to move easily between Lisbon’s historic centre and its contemporary cultural life, while returning to a setting conceived around the city’s own decorative traditions.

Luzzi: Lisbon from above

Dining adds another dimension to the experience. Luzzi, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant and terrace, offers a different perspective on Lisbon, bringing the city’s rooftops and open skies into the setting of a meal or an evening drink. The concept draws inspiration from Portugal’s culinary connections with the wider world, reflecting the country’s longstanding maritime and cultural exchanges.

Downstairs, Andaz Lounge offers a more informal social setting. Inspired by Lisbon’s traditional kiosks and café culture, it brings a contemporary interpretation of Portuguese flavours into a space designed for conversation, a relaxed pause or a meeting in the centre of the city.

Together, the two venues create contrasting moods: the rooftop’s sense of occasion above the city and the lounge’s closer connection with the energy of the streets. They also underline a central idea behind Andaz Lisbon — that a hotel can be both a destination in its own right and a doorway into the place it inhabits.

A milestone for Hyatt in Portugal

For Hyatt, Andaz Lisbon marks an important addition to its lifestyle portfolio. At the opening, General Manager Cajetan Araujo spoke of the city’s culture, creativity and distinctive character as inspirations for the hotel. His emphasis on local experiences reflects the property’s positioning: an international hospitality brand seeking a meaningful connection with its Portuguese setting.

The hotel has also attracted recognition within months of opening. In November 2026, Andaz Lisbon announced that it had received the Best New Hotel distinction for Europe and the Mediterranean at the Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence 2027 — an early milestone for the team behind the new address.

Lisbon at the doorstep

Beyond its rooms and restaurants, Andaz Lisbon benefits from a location that encourages exploration. The monumental Praça do Comércio, the waterfront and the streets of Baixa offer different sides of the capital within a compact area. For guests drawn to architecture, food, shopping or the simple pleasure of wandering, the neighbourhood provides a compelling introduction to Lisbon.

Andaz Lisbon’s strongest appeal may ultimately be the relationship between its interiors and its surroundings. With Portuguese materials shaping the spaces, social venues bringing people together and one of the city’s most recognisable districts just outside the door, the hotel offers a contemporary base from which to experience the capital at its own pace.
